ALCHEMY SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT MERGES WITH TRANSLATIONS.COM
Transaction Joins the World’s Largest Provider of Visual Localization Software with Global Leader in Software Localization Services and Technology
NEW YORK and DUBLIN, March 6, 2008 – Translations.com today announced that the company has merged with Alchemy Software Development. Translations.com, headquartered in New York with 50 offices worldwide, is a global leader in software localization and Globalization Management System (GMS) technology solutions. Alchemy, based in Dublin with offices in the US and Germany, is the world’s largest provider of visual localization technology. Alchemy’s flagship technology product, Alchemy CATALYST, has over 20,000 licenses worldwide and is used by 80% of the world’s largest software development companies. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Phil Shawe, President and CEO of Translations.com, stated, “Alchemy’s profitable and proven business model, wealth of technology talent, and growth-oriented management team make them an ideal merger partner. Having been an Alchemy customer for over five years, we have first-hand experience with how effectively Alchemy CATALYST technology streamlines the localization process. We are committed to building on Alchemy's success and to investing in future Alchemy software product offerings.”
“We are delighted with today’s merger announcement”, said Tony O’Dowd, CEO and President of Alchemy. "The combination of our technology with Translations.com‘s existing GMS product suite, GlobalLink, will enable our clients to achieve greater levels of efficiency and scalability in their localization processes. Further, Translations.com’s unblemished track record of executing successful industry mergers that not only retain virtually 100% of their staff and customers, but also allow incoming entrepreneurs to continue to operate their divisions autonomously, helped us to solidify our decision to merge.”
Alchemy will be run as a division of Translations.com and will continue to be led by its current President and CEO, Tony O’Dowd, a visionary with respect to translation-related technology and a 22-year industry veteran. O’Dowd co-founded Alchemy with Director of Engineering, Enda McDonnell. McDonnell will also continue on in his current capacity. Both O’Dowd and McDonnell will join Translations.com’s senior management team. There will be no layoffs or staff reductions at either firm as a result of the merger.
A key client benefit of the merger will be the integration of their complementary technologies. Translations.com develops and markets a family of GMS (Globalization Management System) software products, known as the GlobalLink technology suite, that make translation workflows more efficient for corporate customers. Alchemy develops and markets Alchemy CATALYST, the world’s most widely used visual localization environment designed to streamline the software localization process, and Alchemy Language Exchange, a high performance, web-enabled translation memory server application that allows customers to achieve maximum cost- and time-efficiencies in the translation process.
